imelda shoe collection

i was in 2nd grade when i read a biography on imelda marcos. her sad childhood, her social climbing tendencies, delusions of grandeur, and diva-esque habits were equal parts fascinating and mortifying. but what struck me most was the chapter on her suite in malacanang, and more importantly, her SHOE COLLECTION. 3000 pairs of shoes! customized manolos and ferragamos, chanel and givenchy. drool. what i would give to have been the first on the scene post-Marcos evacuation of malacanang.

well apparently a "portion" of her abandoned shoes have been mounted on display at - whereelse-the shoe capital of the Philippines (canijustsay it's so weird to see PINK everywhere in marikina, but that's a separate blogpost)! the collection was only 800+ pairs of shoes. wonder where the rest were? probably looted and stolen by lucky politician wives. hmpf.

and we capped the day off with the standard touisty photo-op with the "World's Biggest Shoe" (honestly we have the weirdest Guinness records) and some shoe shopping.

her bling

casual saturday outfit. take note of the ubernice bracelet.

below expectations

so i am in the lion city. supposedly to spend 3 productive days doing hush-hush stuff. no far nothing productive has happened. i am so annoyed. why can't people be timely and prepared? they're wasting my undercompensated time.

seriously. i am so displeased by the quality of service i'm getting. i'm going to indulge in a hissy fit if only to get the ball rolling. there are far better uses of my time - like actually being in the country where much of my unfinished work is being done. hindi joke mag-lead ng consumer work sa probinsya kung nasa ibang bansa ka. GRRRR.

The Weekend That Was

if the way you spend the first week of the year is an indication of how your whole year will be like, then i am in serious trouble - i blew so much money on unnecessary shopping. :(

Friday Late Afternoon
Waiting for my DR to finish a task we needed to give to the Boss.

Friday Early Evening
Still waiting for him to finish up.

Friday Late Evening
Still waiting.

Saturday AM
Got my car assessed for repairs (Ouch, goodbye 6K!)

Saturday 12NN
Greenhills - waiting for my friends to arrive for lunch
Quick stop at Theater Mall
2 pairs of jeans, 1 cocktail dress, and 3 office dresses later - lunch at Periperi

Saturday Early Afternoon
Errands

Saturday Late Afternoon
Back at GH - Houndstooth LOOOOOOVE! got a dress-y top and bag with the print.
Got a yellow t-shirt for P100 bucks..so cool! Blew money on cheap (almost disposable) shoes.
Couldn't resist some cool summer frocks - need to lose a few inches on the tummy but they looked so young and fresh!

Satuday Early Evening
Naptime. Considered flaking on dinner/dancing with friends. Got picked up before I could pretend an illness though (evil evil evil).

Saturday Late Evening - w/ Anama, Delbert, Tif, Karen, Karen's friends, Kim
Dinner at Cuillere (yummy lengua, it almost melts in your mouth)
Drinks/Dancing at Piedra (saw Jilly's brother..it was surreal hahaha, and Yogi too).

Sunday
General cleaning of Anama's condo - rationalized clothes, shoes, make-up, etc etc

Sunday PM
Omakase dinner with Gloria, our Mexican expat who just came back from vacation (we missed her soooo much!)
Dessert and Coffee at Mom and Tina's

I'm too sleepy/lazy to post pics. I'd probably post the things I bought as I wear them..hahaha.

2009 to-do list

when i was a kid, they made me write new year's resolutions on paper, which we would then burn at midnight. with my memory, none of those resolutions stuck to my head. i don't think i've ever kept a single resolution i've made, especially those "i resolve to be more patient" lines.

a lesson i quickly learned from my corporate bondage is that the only way to get action (and get people accountable for their actions) is to EXPLICITLY state expectations, and get rid of those motherhood statements. so instead of resolutions, i just prepared a list of things TO DO this year.

1. go to Boracay this Labor Day weekend (3rd time's the charm!)
2. get my passport stamped in at least 3 countries i've never been to before (lead options remain Spain, Cambodia, Japan, Greece, and Italy).
3. buy at least one book a month.
4. buy AT MOST 2 pairs of shoes a month.
5. learn how to use Limewire (don't laugh) properly.
6. run in at least one 10k event, and train for a 2010 marathon.
7. buy a condo.
8. take sewing or swimming lessons.
9. go back to HK - and do the bungee thingo this time!
10. don't drink unless the mixer is DIET soda.

sick

after 1 day back in the office, i was stricken with the flu. sounds funny but it's not. did i somehow become allergic to work? or perhaps i got kulam or something. the horror.

so now i'm stuck in bed, drinking yucky teas made of god-knows-what. and even my computer time is rationed out. as if my lcd can emit enough radioactive waves to kill me. hmpf.

salute to the new year!

last year was GREAT. can't wait for this one, it's going to be AWESOME. cheers to 2009!

shoe inventory

i finished my annual new year's clean up and here's what i yielded:

- 56 pairs of ACTIVE footwear
- 12 pairs for disposal/adoption
- 4 pairs resurrected from oblivion (curse ye, bad memory)
- 3 pairs that need repair

i now have room to get 12 more pairs of shoes. no objections.

oh, and happy new year to one and all! :)
